WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones designed to match hormones of an individual patient, and replace those that are not being produced in sufficient quantities by the body. Often used to combat the symptoms of menopause and andropause, BHRT can also be used to address other concerns in both men and women. Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones produced by a specific patient, helping the body process them better.

The use of bioidentical hormones in hormone replacement therapy reduces some of the risks once associated with the treatment, as the buildup of non-identical chemicals doesn’t occur. At Wow Medi Spa, we use an innovative hormone pellet system to help patients who are suffering from imbalanced hormones.

WHAT ARE PELLETS?

Pellets are a replacement therapy system that provides a slow and steady release of hormones – both estrogen and testosterone – manufactured to exactly match the hormones of an individual patient. Pellet hormone replacement therapy is only available with the prescription and supervision from a physician or nurse practitioner.

Hormone pellets are small – about the size of a large grain of rice – and are inserted under the skin, usually in the upper buttock. The placement of the pellet is a quick outpatient procedure. In most cases, the pellet is inserted in less than 10 minutes. After placement, the pellet slowly dissolves and the hormones are metabolized by the body just like naturally produced hormones.
